The Kiwanis Club of LaGrange, GA, which was sponsored by the Kiwanis Club of Newnan, was chartered on December 18, 1940.  Charter night was held on February 17, 1941 at the Highland Country Club.  Outstanding Kiwanians from throughout the state came to LaGrange for the charter presentation ceremony.  Past Georgia District Governor, George F. Simpson of Valdosta presented the charter to R. L. Hinson, president of the new Kiwanis club.

Past International President Mark A. Smith and other dignitaries were in attendance. The ceremony was broadcast over WDAK, a West Point radio station. A mutual broadcast was also made through a sectional hookup in Atlanta, Macon, and Columbus, GA.

Mayor R. S. O'Neal gave a welcome address.  James Carmichael welcomed all guests. Miss Melba Keeble sang a solo which was followed by the charter presentation.  Georgia District Governor Mark A. Smith addressed the group followed by a dance with attendees dancing to the music of Vannie Sanders and his orchestra.
